About Us
Who We Are
At Fitzgerald Public Schools, our mission is to inspire, empower, and prepare today’s learners to become tomorrow’s leaders. Our vision is to support every student to be Focused, Progressive, and Successful.
We care deeply about the success and well-being of every child. Our strategic plan focuses on:
Rich, Quality Learning: Providing a reliable curriculum tailored to student needs.
Support for every Child: Offering multi-tiered support systems that care for the whole child, whole school, and whole community.
Family & Community Partnerships: Engaging families, encouraging open communication, and sharing collective responsibility.
Smart Growth: Using data-driven decisions to continually improve our district.
Founded in 1920, Fitzgerald Public Schools is a close-knit, welcoming community of 2,200 students and 350 dedicated staff members. We offer complete educational pathways for every stage of your child’s journey:
Schofield Early Childhood Center (PreK–K)
Westview Elementary (Grades 1–3)
Mound Park Elementary (Grades 4–5)
Chatterton Middle School (Grades 6–8), featuring a working district planetarium
Fitzgerald High School (Grades 9–12), equipped with a state-of-the-art automotive service center
Fitzgerald Virtual Academy (Grades 9-12), for flexible learning options
Our district is proud of its vibrant culture, featuring award-winning athletic programs, a renowned marching band, and a piece of student-inspired artwork currently on loan to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). We also take pride in our historical legacy—our administrative building is named in honor of Zena Neigebaur, who made history as the first female superintendent in the state of Michigan.
To serve our families seamlessly, we operate our own in-house transportation, food service, custodial, and maintenance teams, and partner with local providers to offer convenient, high-quality before- and after-school childcare.
What We Do
Fitzgerald Public Schools offers competitive salaries and benefits packages alongside meaningful opportunities for professional growth and leadership.
We are small enough for everyone to know you and your child by name, yet large enough to offer world-class educational standards and modern facilities. Thanks to the support of our community through our recent bond, our classrooms, cafeterias, and school buildings are actively being transformed into state-of-the-art spaces designed for future-ready learning.
